Obituary for Mary E. Uszenski

Wantage: Mary E. Uszenski, age 83, passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 6, 2013, at the home of her nephew, Dan Stevens. She
lived in Hamburg for 60 years, until her recent move to Franklin 2 years ago.

She was born February 17, 1930, in Milton, NJ, the daughter of Charles Jennings Headley and Ella Fredericks. She graduated from Sussex High School in 1947. Mrs. Uszenski worked at Newton Trust Company in Hardyston as a bank teller, and had also worked at Jones Florist and Bouquet by Bobbies.

She married Floyd “Turk” Uzenski on January 26, 1952, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, in Sussex, NJ. They had two children, Robert F. of Caldwell, NJ and Thomas of Rhode Island who is deceased.

She is survived by her son, Robert, one granddaughter, Melissa (Paco) Malagi, two great-grandchildren, Camille and Carmeron Malagi. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will always remember her “open door” happy home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Turk, and son, Thomas, Both in January, 2003. Her parents, one sister, Ruth Stevens; five brothers, Richard, Alan, Lawrence, Tom, and William (missing in action WWII).

She was a member of the Hamburg Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary, a CCD teacher, Cub Scout leader, and volunteer for Meals on wheels.

She humbly washed and cleaned the Alter linens for St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church for 46 years, regretfully needing to give up this devotional three years ago.

She will always be remembered by family and friends for her quiet, kind, and humble sweetness.

The family will receive their friends this Sunday June 9th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home One Main Street Franklin, NJ. Mass of Christian burial celebrated by Fr. William Collins will be held Monday 10:00 am at St. Jude the Apostle Church 4-24 Beaver Run Road Hamburg. Interment to follow at the Headley Family plot in Milton Cemetery, Milton, NJ.

Memorials can be made in her honor to Hamburg Fire Department Auxiliary, P.O. Box 262 Hamburg, NJ 07419 or the Reverend Stanislaus B. Uszenski Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Joseph’s Church 14 Glenmere Ave., Florida, NY 10921. For driving directions and to offer online condolences please go to www.fjohnramseyfuneralhome.com.
