Obituary for Judith Marie Postas (Davies)

Judy Postas passed quietly at her family home in Franklin, NJ on April 20 after a long illness, while surrounded by her immediate family and friends.
Born May 4, 1939, to Florence Collins and John Edward Davies, Judy was a life-long resident of Franklin.
Judy is survived by her husband, Charles and their children Charles William Postas Jr. and his wife Debbi, of Lincoln Park, NJ; Elizabeth Postas Casey and her husband Thomas of Troy, NY; Mark Postas of Franklin, NJ and John E. Postas and his wife Deborah of Franklin, NJ. Judy and her husband have thirteen wonderful and loving grand-children and fifteen loving nieces and nephews.
Judy was predeceased in 2009 by her older brother John “Butch” Davies. Her surviving siblings include Dolores Simpson, of Plymouth, MA, Richard Davies and his wife Patricia of Lafayette, NJ and Thomas Davies and his wife Rosemary of Fleetwood, PA.
Judy graduated from Franklin, NJ High School in 1957, received her undergraduate degree in education from Patterson State Teachers College and attained her master’s degree plus 60 from Marywood College of PA. She taught her entire career in the Franklin, NJ school system, retiring in 1998 after 23 years. Her greatest joy was to inspire her students to be achievers. She often expressed to her students that were struggling, “don’t say, I can’t do it”, say “I’ll try”. She was always there to provide compassion and understanding toward students that were having difficulties either in school or at home.
Judy was an avid outdoors person who loved hiking and kayaking and could often be seen with her dear friends on the Franklin Pond. Her sorority of friends “The Sugilite Sister’s” were proud of the fact that after retirement, they had hiked most of the trails in the Northern, NJ State Park System, as well as, kayaked all the lakes and rivers within Sussex County as well as a few from Passaic, Warren and Hunterdon counties.
Judy was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army. She was a dedicated volunteer at their local mission and enjoyed participating in their annual “Red Kettle” campaign fund. Judy was an active member of both the Franklin and Ogdensburg, NJ Presbyterian Churches. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Organization and served on various committees of both congregations.
On April 14 Judy was awarded the honor of Franklin Borough “Senior Citizen of the Year – 2018”. Presentation was made at her home bedside by a borough representative in the presence of her family.
At Judy and her family’s request, a memorial service will be held on a future announced date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Franklin, NJ Presbyterian or Ogdensburg, NJ Presbyterian churches.
