Working Girls

I will always remember when I first met Sue. It was 1978. I was working in the Disability and Annuity section of The Prudential Insurance Company. At that time, our area was located on 5 Gib, which was the 5th floor of the old Gibraltar building in downtown Newark, NJ. Despite the many renovations that had been done to modernize other departments in the building, ours was left to resemble the 1940's, complete with grey metal desks, color painted posts to separate each section on the floor, and lots and lots of dust!  In fact, as the women were hired, they were given a welcome handshake, and a light blue smock to wear to protect their clothes from the dust. (It would also be another 4 years before we would move out of our dusty environment and into a fabulous, state of the art building in Roseland, NJ.) When Sue started in our area at Pru, we became fast friends, with lots in common. We were both dark haired, single, Irish young women, with high cheek bones, toothy smiles, and great senses of humor! Throughout the years we would celebrate each others promotions at work, as well as happy hours, home parties, work parties and social outings. Many good times! In 1982, we would meet another woman at Pru, Patti Halicki, who became part of our circle. The three of us have remained loyal friends to each other, through the good times and bad. No matter who we married, where we moved to, or what outside activities kept us busy, we've always made time for each other, through phone calls, emails, texts, Birthday cards, Christmas cards, and Girls Night dinners, over the past 40 years. As the lyric goes Sue, "Because I knew you, I have been changed for Good." Rest in Peace my friend. I'll miss you forever! Donna P.
