F. G. Van Gorder

F.G. on July 10th, 2019 aged 94 of Newton, and Highland Lakes formerly of Ridgefield and Elmwood Park. F.G. was born in La Plume PA and lived there on his family farm until he was seven and moved with his family to NJ for his father to work during the Depression. F.G. worked as a printer with his father and brother and later as an Elmwood Park Letter Carrier a job that he enjoyed. He loved his family, predeceased by his parents, Violet ( Bevan) and Stanley Van Gorder, and recently, his brother James Van Gorder Jr and sister-in- law Patricia Van Gorder. F.G. lost his beloved first wife in 1980, Elizabeth ( Nasuti), but found love again with his second wife, Ruth Boschert ( Muller) who predeceased him in 2011. With Ruth, not only did he travel extensively and live as a snow bird in Florida, he gained his beloved family. Step-son, Kenneth Boschert, his niece and daughter-in law, Pamela Boschert. His two granddaughters, Kathryn Boschert (John Bonaglia) and Kimberly White (Eric White). He was immensely proud of his granddaughters and the men that they married. Adding to his joy in later years was the addition to the family of four great- grandchildren, Brianna and Aviendha White and Jack and Genevieve Bonaglia. F.G. is also survived by nieces and nephews and their families.

In his youth, F.G. was a semi-professional baseball and football player. He was a proud WW II Navy veteran of the European and Pacific theatres. He was an avid swimmer of lake one, a competitive bocce and shuffleboard player as well as fisherman and golfer. He loved puzzles and cards, watching all manner of sports and enjoyed playing the stock market.

F.G. was a simple man of simple tastes and had a wry sense of humor and sweet tooth up until the end. He had a loving, kind nature and heart. He will be most remembered as a loving son, husband, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.

Pursuant to his final wishes, F.G. did not want his name in the paper nor a wake or funeral. Internment was private with Navy Military Honors. Donations if desired are to the Highland Lakes Goodwill Fund, POB 578, Highland Lakes, NJ 07422.

To my Stepfather, Fred, Grandpa, Bubby , and Uncle Fred. The below is for you, Rest In Peace
Love Ken.

If God would grant one “wish” come true,
It would make me very glad
To be able to express in words, in a special
Tribute to my Stepfather Fred
While his life on earth is ended and he’s
Now with God above
Fred’s memory is always with me and I think
Of him with love

Someday I trust the words will come
They have to be special you see
For the spirit Fred showed through all
Of his life reflects a deep meaning to me
He was the patriarch of the family after marrying my Mom
He and I spent hours talking about life the family and friends
I remember him and Mom asking if they could date
I remember him asking if he could have my Mothers’ hand in marriage
He thanked me after my Mom died for me asking him to remain a part of our family
He had Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren who he loved and he had Grand Dogs
I remember his smile his twinkling eyes
And the stories he loved to relate
So until I can find the adequate words I
Will just have to “Trust with Faith”

“A little bit of heaven” fell from out the
Sky today
With it brought the special words of a
“Message” I’ll convey

“Remember all the happiness we
Shared from year to year
Be thankful in your heart now
For the “Blessings” you have near
Think of Fred, Dad, Grandpa, Bubby with happy memories
That’s the way it’s meant to be
Follow your hopes and dreams
As they are a part of Him
Just keep right on believing sure as
There’s a God above
He will always Bless you- in the
Memory of His Love”

He would say to us today that He has found much consolation as His
“Wish” now has come true;
Betty and Ruth are with him with Tootsie, Chipper, Taylor and Buddy
And the trust and Faith He believes, I am
Passing on to you
Although your heart is burdened, and
You’re grieving very much
Remember “A Little-Bit–of Heaven and
Give it your Personal Touch!”

Betty and I started at the NJ Bell together in 1968. She and Fred became special friends to many of us at work. My husband and my daughters and I would visit the lake many, many times. We were all very sad when Betty passed but when we met Ruth, Fred's wife, it was wonderful so see how happy she made him. We have some very fond memories of them both. Your Words Ken --- Betty and Ruth and all their animals are so special. My girls loved Chipper and I have some great pictures of them all together. Again Ken - all your words show how much you loved Fred, as we did an yes, now his "WISH" has come true. On behalf of my family, you are in our prayers and thank you to all your family for the love and happiness you gave to Fred.
