Obituary

Jenson Beach, FL - Thomas (Tom) Patrick Hibbits, 76, of Jenson Beach Florida, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2020. Born on November 4, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Hibbits.

Tom graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, class of 1961. Upon graduation, he began work with RCA Communications in New York City. He later transferred to Piscataway, NJ where he worked for MCI/Worldcom and then retired. Tom was an avid sports fan with baseball clearly being his favorite, and would often be seen wearing a Giants or Yankees hat. Although Tom enjoyed sports, it was his love of music and dancing that he will be most remembered for. He had an extensive collection of records that he started when he was 12 years old. When Tom had extra money, he could be found at the local record store buying the latest number one hit. He could dance a Lindy better than anyone we knew and although his wife Noreen was his favorite partner he would cut a rug with anyone who would dance with him.

In 1970, Tom moved his family from Brooklyn, NY to Highland Lakes, NJ to give them what he believed to be a better life in the country. He remained there until 2016 when he moved to Jenson Beach, FL for health reasons. Tom was a humble man who never sought attention but attracted it by everyone. If you knew Tom, you immediately loved him. He lived life simply but loved his family and friends deeply. During the last month of his life, Tom was able to see one of his grandchildren get married, one turn 21, one graduate from the police academy, and one acquire a tattoo (1.380) honoring his legacy. They were his pride and joy and he loved them enormously.

He was the dearly loved husband and best friend of wife Noreen. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on November 16th, 2020. He is also survived by his three children, Thomas Patrick junior and his wife Toni DiMiceli – Hibbits, of West New York, NJ, Tracy Hibbits – Berge and her husband Scott of Vernon, NJ, and Carol Hibbits – Gonzalez and her husband William of Glenwood, NJ; and his four grandchildren: Ashleigh Heath and her husband Justin and their two children Bella and Jackson, Kevin Berge, Victoria Gonzalez, and Michael Gonzalez. He will also be dearly missed by many life-long friends, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Thomas will be held on Thursday, August 6th, 2020 from 4-7PM at the Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94 (One Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ 07462. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, August 7th, 10AM at the Our Lady of Fatima RC Church in Highland Lakes. Burial will follow in the North Hardyston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Oh Noreen... my sincere condolences to you & the family.... I can't even imagine the grief you are experiencing. Tom was such a wonderful, jovial person and will be missed by all who knew him. When you met him, you instantly liked him...His good nature, warm smile & great laugh just drew you in... I will always remember all the fun we had over the years w/ the 'Irish' brogue...it was always a 'party' when he was around...
May God cover you all with His love & grace. May He give you peace and strength during this emotional time...and as the days go on, may God bless you with memories that bring laughter over tears...
Thinking of you & praying for you... and sending big, big hugs of sympathy
