I feel like a piece of me is missing
Now that you’re gone,
My Mommom, my family, you’ve been for so long.

The memories of my visits
Those summers we’d come back east,
I loved when I got to visit your house,
You and Poppop had the best treats.

As I grew older we would talk about the past,
And you would share memories of my dad,
I listened intently with a smile and a tear
As I knew these moments couldn’t forever last.

I’ve never known a life
Where you are no longer present,
So it’s a tough concept to grasp
And even tougher to accept.

So then I started thinking
How beautiful life is,
How bittersweet, how powerful,
A memory truly is.

Memories can last forever
As long as there are people to share them with,
So Mommom you will live on forever,
Through me and through my kids.

No matter what we believe happens
When a person passes on,
When a person was believed in while alive,
They will live forever on.

So Mommom, thank you for the memories, the smiles and the tears,
I will carry you with me forever,
Through all my beautiful years.
