Obituary for Leo J. Moore

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Leo J. Moore passed away at age 90 with his wife Carole and daughters Tracy and Laura by his side. Affectionately known as Jack, he was born and raised in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, New York, the son of Leo and Katherine Moore. He was a proud Navy veteran; having served five years on the USS Rowan DD-782 during the Korean War.
Leo married Carole (Becker) Moore in 1968, and after living in San Diego, CA, the couple made their home in Sussex, NJ. He was a quality assurance engineer for most of his life, but his family and friendships were what meant the most to him. Leo was a well-known and beloved figure within the community. He was a passionate town councilman and a respected former commander of The American Legion Post 213, of which he remained an active member throughout his life. Leo also planned reunions for his navy shipmates and was an avid skier and skin diver in his younger years. He had a gregarious laugh, loved a good joke, and truly enjoyed life.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Kay and Alice. He is survived by his wife Carole; his daughters Tracy (Rob) and Laura (Scott); five grandchildren, Macy, Logan, Blajian, Maxwell, and Jack; and his brother Bill and numerous nieces and nephews.
A “walk-through” visitation for Leo will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 from 2-6PM at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ 07461. The funeral service will take place at 5:30 PM during the visitation. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitors are required to wear masks at all times and the funeral home may accommodate fifty people at any one time.
In place of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The American Legion Post 213 or St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Sussex, New Jersey.
