Steven Boyd Lutke of Highland Lakes, N.J. died at the age of 69 in his home on Friday Feb.26, 2021.

He was born and raised in Ridgewood, N.J. to Harry and Virginia Lutke. He later moved to Chatham, where he married Elaine Ahle and became the proud father of two boys; Jonathan and Tim. Steven joined his Father Harry in their family business of home design & renovation.

Steve's love of the outdoors brought him to Highland Lakes, N.J. The beauty surrounding him, combined with his love of sports and competition, peeked a new interest in mountain biking, which he shared with his eldest son, Jonathan..engaging in several downhill competitions.

The most notable legacy of Steven's life, however, is rooted in his love for music which he inherited from his mother "Ginger".. one of the Dinning Sister trio. Steve's instrument of choice from his early years, became the Banjo, which those of us who have been privileged to hear him play, can all agree, he certainly mastered!

During this very unusual past year, Steve's happiest moments were spent with his son, Tim, and three delightful grandchildren; as Tim and their mom, Kelsey, made it happen.

A visitation for Steven will be held on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021 from 4-7PM at the Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, (One Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ 07462. The funeral service will take place at 7PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Freedom Church, 145 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. I knew Steve from Highland Lakes, from the gym and from thoroughly enjoying his banjo playing & bluegrass music. I had attended numerous of his concerts around the region. As much as I enjoyed hearing him sing and play, Steve really enjoyed entertaining his audience. Furthermore, he was a nice person and will be missed.

Steve was a “gifted” storyteller. He would have your full attention with the most minute details...only to realize later that a lot of it was made up.
The funniest were his tales of brother Buddy’s exploits.
We had gotten closer the last few years, sharing our mutual love of all things Bluegrass.
So glad we were able to share 4 days in October 2019 laughing and playing music with cousin Ron Surry. We were all looking forward to doing it again.
One afternoon we toured Belle Meade mansion in Nashville & got the giggles during the guided tour. You’d have thought we were immature kids again.
Will miss your musicianship and friendship. RIP cousin.

I can see him smiling, and feel his big strong hug. So thankful I got to spend time with him and his banjo in October 2019, with lots of family all around. Sending love-

I remember fondly all the holiday gatherings that Larry and I were so privileged to often be included in. Plenty of humor, love, and most of all incredible music that I remember Steve and Kevin playing together with other talented family members. Steve, we'll miss you.
