Glenwood, NJ: Charles William Finke, III, 73 years old, passed away after a long illness at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Born to Charles W. Finke, Jr. and Mary (nee Grater) Finke in Paterson, NJ, he grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ (graduating from Pompton Lakes High School), and also lived in North Carolina, West Milford, and Riverdale, NJ before settling in the Glenwood section of Vernon Township in 1974.

Charles, in addition to several other business ventures in construction, was the co-owner of Chas-Dick Redi-Mix in New Hampton, NY and Hewitt, NJ for many years; a shop steward for Teamsters Local Union No. 560 before he retired from Colonial Concrete in Riverdale, NJ, and finally as a dispatcher with Salamone Redi-Mix in Hillburn, NY. Charles honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as a United States Marine-where, among several other awards, he was awarded the Purple Heart (twice) and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Charles enjoyed vacationing with his family and was a voracious reader. He was always there for his family when they needed him. Charles will be dearly missed and loved by his family.

Charles was predeceased by his wife Denise M. Finke (2017) and his sisters June and Marybeth. He is the devoted father of Glenn Finke and his companion Donna Motta of Middletown NY, Veronique "Nikki" Flynn and her husband Peter of Franklin, NJ and Cody Finke of Glenwood, NJ. Loving grandfather of Glenn Finke, Jr. and Daisy Finke.

The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be at 4:15 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation is private and burial of cremains at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date. Memorial gifts to SCARC, 11 Route 206, Suite 100, Augusta, NJ 07822 would be greatly appreciated. Information and condolences can be found at

My sincere condolences to Charlie's family. You don't know me but Charlie and I were best of friends when we were kids in Pompton Lakes. We tore up the countryside in a fleet of fast cars and delivered pizza together in a ratty old Ford Falcon.
I tried for some years to find Charlie to no avail. Please accept my sincere regrets at this news. I will always remember Charlie with the greatest fondness.

Chris: Thank you very much for the kind words and sharing your memories about our Dad...we know at least some of his fun (or too much fun times) in Pompton Lakes and helps bring us comfort. Stay well and thank you again!
