Obituary

Vernon Twp., NJ: Sharon Kay Ercolano (nee Courter), 72 years old, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born to William and Gladys Courter, Sharon was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. She then lived in West Paterson, NJ, before moving to Vernon Twp., NJ over 34 years ago.

Sharon received her BA in Education from Paterson State College (now William Paterson University). She worked for 30 years as an elementary school English teacher at the Riverdale Public School, positively impacting the lives of her students until her retirement in 1999. During her 30 year teaching career, Sharon further enriched the lives of her students by organizing and directing the school’s Variety and Talent Shows. All of her former students loved “Ms. Ercolano” and many have formed relationships with her lasting to this day.

In her free time, Sharon loved to spend time gardening and spending time outside in nature. She enjoyed decorating her home with a natural touch, and would never turn away an animal (or insect) that was in need. When she couldn’t spend time outside, Sharon enjoyed watching soap operas, and was a die hard New York Yankee fan. Sharon loved to vacation in Aruba, as she did for the past 15 years with her husband and best friends.

Sharon is the beloved wife for 52 years of Charles Ercolano of Vernon Twp., NJ. Devoted mother of Michael Charles Ercolano and his girlfriend, Victoria Sadowski, currently of Allamuchy, NJ.

Private cremation services will be held under the direction of Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be scheduled for a later date. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers to a favorite animal rescue would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon and I were classmates at Eastside high school and then at Paterson state... We are sorority sisters and shared many happy college memories.. We were bridesmaids in each other's wedding. Sharon was a kind, patient, cheerful, loving person and friend. As we were busy with our careers and families, Sharon and I lost touch but I always thought so fondly of her and we finally reconnected not to long ago. We had hoped to enjoy happy times during our post retirement years.... My deepest condolences to Charlie and Michael... She is surely an angel in heaven as she was on earth.

SHARON ERCOLANO was/is a giant.
An innovator. A person who saw things differently. She was a creative "force" that dared even the simplest minds to create beyond their imagination.
Personally, she taught me in a very creative way to "go after my dreams" and that although there are people crazy enough to think they can change the world...they are usually the one's that do.
Her beauty, her charisma and her warmth will forever be a part of this former student's life- and I know how much she meant to you ALL, as well as she did to my dear Mother. Although I miss my Mother more today than yesterday...I am certain she welcomed Sharon "home" with OPEN ARMS.
Words cannot express how instrumental Sharon Ercolano was/is in my life- and in time, all I can ever continue to do is to honor her by following her extraordinary lead. Everything I do has a touch of her creativity added to it and it will forever remain that way.
SHARON ERCOLANO was/is pure LOVE.
Forever rest in Peace, Mrs. Ercolano.
You will never be forgotten.
With love to you ALL...
In thoughts and prayers...
Always,
Joey Dedio

It is with great sadness that I need to say goodbye to my very dear friend and teaching partner Sharon Ercolano. We spent 30 years teaching together at the Riverdale School, we, the Dynamic Duo! And oh, how we made our presence known there, so many memories! I think of the hundreds of students who she influenced, students who even to this day, so many years later, remember her with love.
Then, after our teaching career, remaining such close friends for 20 more years. Sharon and I shared most of our lives together. It was Sharon who in 1974 introduced me to her husband Chuck… an introduction that led me to my love of Karate. Sharon’s husband became both my friend and my Karate Sensei. I owe so much of my life and success to Sharon and for that I will always be thankful.
I now have so many memories of our friendship that will always be a part of me. Sharon, you will be in my heart forever! (Feel free to look over this and correct my spelling and grammar).

Sharon, my friend, my heart is broken that you are no longer with us. I have known you for almost 30 years. We shared a lot of good times together - soccer games, baseball games, gatherings of all kinds, vacations - Turks and Caicos, Aruba, Cape May, all done with a glass in our hand and a lot of laughter. But most of all I will always remember Friday nights at the LampPost with you and Chuck and Mike and then later as Mike and Ryan got older just the four of us. May you rest easily now free of pain. You will always be in my heart. To Mike and Chuck - our heartfelt sympathies on your loss of a great wife and mother - she loved you both very much. Patti and Ray
