Obituary for Sharon Kay Ercolano (Courter)

Vernon Twp., NJ: Sharon Kay Ercolano (nee Courter), 72 years old, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born to William and Gladys Courter, Sharon was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. She then lived in West Paterson, NJ, before moving to Vernon Twp., NJ over 34 years ago.

Sharon received her BA in Education from Paterson State College (now William Paterson University). She worked for 30 years as an elementary school English teacher at the Riverdale Public School, positively impacting the lives of her students until her retirement in 1999. During her 30 year teaching career, Sharon further enriched the lives of her students by organizing and directing the school’s Variety and Talent Shows. All of her former students loved “Ms. Ercolano” and many have formed relationships with her lasting to this day.

In her free time, Sharon loved to spend time gardening and spending time outside in nature. She enjoyed decorating her home with a natural touch, and would never turn away an animal (or insect) that was in need. When she couldn’t spend time outside, Sharon enjoyed watching soap operas, and was a die hard New York Yankee fan. Sharon loved to vacation in Aruba, as she did for the past 15 years with her husband and best friends.

Sharon is the beloved wife for 52 years of Charles Ercolano of Vernon Twp., NJ. Devoted mother of Michael Charles Ercolano and his girlfriend, Victoria Sadowski, currently of Allamuchy, NJ.

Private cremation services will be held under the direction of Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be scheduled for a later date. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers to a favorite animal rescue would be greatly appreciated.
