Obituary for Hewitt Decker
Hardyston Twp., NJ: Hewitt Decker, 98 years old, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Born to Franklin and Eliza Decker in Rockaway, NJ, he had lived in Sparta before moving to Hardyston Twp., NJ 20 years ago.
Hewitt served with the United States Army in the Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and upon returning home, on the same day as his two brothers, completed his BS in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers. Hewitt worked for many years for P.S.E.&G, retiring as Superintendent of the Bergen County Generating Station in Ridgefield, NJ in 1986. Hewitt was an avid Pilot and owned a plane through a cooperative, taking to the air whenever he could.
Hewitt is predeceased by his wife, Helen Decker(2014) and a son, Peter Allen Decker(2019), and is the beloved grandfather of Peter A. Decker, Jr. of Mendham, NJ. Dear uncle of Patrick Decker of Florida, John Decker of Middleton, MD, Mary Roeder Prokop of Overland Park, KS and Carolyn Roeder Haas of Southern Shores, NC.
The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 10 to 11 AM. Burial to follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Ogdensburg, NJ.
