Obituary for Robert W. Mackey Sr.

Robert W. Mackey, Sr., age 86 of Sparta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021 at his home, with his family by his side.
Born in Brooklyn to the late Arthur and Mary (Garrity) Mackey, Robert lived in Wayne, Hardyston and Bangor, PA before settling in Sparta a few years ago. Robert worked for many years in the shipping and receiving department of UPS. Most recently, he worked as a florist at Kings Market in Bedminster before retiring.
Predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Bill, Tom, George, Charlie, Arnold, Arthur, and Donald Mackey, Robert is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Joan (Miller) Mackey; children Robert Mackey, Jr., Brian Mackey and his partner Andrew Riccardi, Bonnie Dekmar and husband David, and Beth Kovalcik and her husband Dennis; grandchildren Robert Mackey, III, David Dekmar, Jr., Darren Miller, Catherine Beveridge, Brandon Mackey, Ryan Dekmar, and Nicholas and Abigail Kovalcik; as well as his seven loving great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his sisters Gloria Criger and Lillian Morgan; brothers Frank Mackey and his wife Noreen, and Douglas Mackey; brother-in-law Emil Miller and sister-in-law Edith and Marge Mackey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a member of the Jaycees, a fireman with the Haledon fire department and the Holy Name Society’s Man of the Year in 2010. He will be remembered for lighting up a room and conquering the dance floor.
