Obituary for Edwin Dennis O'Connor
Miller Place, NY: Edwin Dennis O’Connor, 77 years old, passed away after a long illness at Newton Medical Center on Sunday, October 10, 2021. Born to the late Edwin B. and Dorothy O’Connor in Brooklyn, NY, he had lived in Brooklyn and Miller Place for most of his life.
Edwin served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and worked as a banker for Greater New York Savings Bank in Brooklyn, NY for many years retiring in 1999. He was very involved in local organizations like the Park Slope Civic Counsel that he served as chairman, the Park Slope Chamber of Commerce, member of the Berkeley-Carroll Street school Board, Treasurer of the Helen Owen Carey Day Care Center, served on the Board of Directors of the 9th Street YMCA in Brooklyn and was founder of the 7th Heaven Street Fair in Brooklyn. He was instrumental in getting Squad 1 to the the firehouse at Union Street when the City closed the firehouse due to budget restrictions. He also served as Chairman and Treasurer of the Scenic Lakes Community Association.
Edwin is the dear brother of Joseph J. O’Connor and his wife, Jacqueline of Miller Place, NY and Jerome D. O’Connor of Hamburg, NJ. Cherished by 6 nieces and nephews and 13 grandnieces and grandnephews, 1 great grandnephew.
