Obituary for Harry Joseph Payne

Wantage Twp., NJ: Harry Joseph Payne, 89, of Hamburg, N.J. died peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
Harry was the son of Seth and Eva R. Payne of Coraopolis, PA. He was born on June 4, 1932 in Stowed Twp. PA. Harry was the first male grandchild of Harry and Margaret Payne and Joseph and Gladys Over.

Harry attended the Coraopolis schools, where he lettered in two sports, graduating in 1950. He went into the Army in 1953 where he attended radar school. After being discharged, he went to work with Singer Kearfott guidance and Navigation Corporation, working for 55 years. While in Dayton, Ohio he met and married his wife Carole Jean Payne. It was love at first sight. During their marriage, they adopted two children, Greg and Gwendolyn (Wendy). Harry’s work took them to Linkoping, Sweden in the 1970s where they lived for seven years.
Upon return to the United States in 1979, they settled in Hamburg, NJ. Harry and his wife, Carole became long-time members of Crossroads Assembly of God church in Hamburg, NJ. He loved playing the piano in the church and at home as well. He had a leading role behind the scenes of the church as a respected member of the board holding different titles throughout his years, and participated in numerous volunteering services.

Harry was predeceased by his lovely wife of 56 years, Carole Payne and his two sisters, Bernice, and Judy Horn. Devoted father of Gregory M, Payne, of Wantage, and Gwendolyn E. Esteves and her husband, Agostinho, Budd Lake, loving grandfather of Alicia and Alana Esteves. Dear brother of Nancy Meadows of Colorado, David Payne, of Florida, Janet Payne, Coraopolis,PA; Linda Romasco, of Freedom,PA.

The family will receive their friends at Crossroads Assembly of God, 12 Edsall St., Hamburg, on Tuesday, April 5, from 4-6 p.m. Celebration of Life will commence at 6 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery, Walland, Tenn. Memorial gifts to Crossroads Church, 12 Edsall St., Hamburg, NJ 07419 would be appreciated.
