Obituary for Richard "Gary" Johnson
Richard “Gary” Johnson, age 74 of Sparta, passed away on Friday, April 22nd, 2022, at his home in Lake Mohawk.
Born in Chicago Heights, IL to the late Kenneth and Eileen (Ufheil) Johnson, Gary attended Parsons College in Fairfield, IA. Graduating with a BA in General Science, Gary briefly taught science in Virginia before moving to New Jersey. In 1996, Gary began working as an electronic technician for NuComm in Hackettstown, where he worked until is retirement in 2019. Gary was a member of the Sussex County Amateur Radio Club and, until recently, had been an active pilot out of Sussex Airport.
Predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Margaret Greer, Gary is survived by his loving wife, Martha J. (Potera) Johnson; daughter Deborah Ann O’Brien, of Blairstown; son Robert Ruitenberg and wife Karen, of Newton; grandchildren Patrick O’Brien and Samantha and Caitlyn Ruitenberg; sisters, Marlene Baker, Tracy Sterling, and Barbara Hamilton; and brother, Kenneth Johnson. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass for Gary was held at the Immaculate Conception RC Church in Franklin on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 at 11AM. Burial took place in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. Arrangements were private and under the direction of the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ 07416.
