Obituary for Larry R. Mutz

Larry Robert Mutz of Vernon, NJ was called to “the bright side of the road” peacefully and in the comfort of his home on June 14, 2022.
Larry was born on August 11, 1950 to Irene and George Mutz in Teaneck, NJ and raised in Bergenfield, NJ. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Patricia. Whenever he spoke of his love for his beautiful wife, he glowed, and would explain just how much she meant to him. Several years after starting their family, Larry and Patricia moved to Vernon, NJ where he dedicated his life to taking care of his wife and his three loving children. He is survived by his son Larry Robert Mutz Jr. and his partner Craig Albert, his daughter Tracy Lynn Opfer and her husband James Opfer III, and his daughter Carrie Ann Petracca and her husband David Petracca. A proud and doting grandfather, Larry is survived by his grandchildren Roger, Linnaea, Isla, Derek, Adelaide, Callie and James. He is also survived by his brothers R. Douglas Mutz, and Donald Mutz, and his sisters Barbara Mutz and Patricia Campanile. In addition, his life was blessed with the love of many nieces and nephews.
One of Larry’s favorite places was Beach Haven, NJ. When he would drive over the bridge leading to Long Beach Island, he would shout out the driver’s side window, “Hellllloooo Beach Haven!” Each year, he always found a way to take his family on vacation there, from his honeymoon in 1971, to his 50th wedding anniversary.
Larry was a very talented electrician, a long-time member of IBEW Local 102. Later, he went on to become a Chief Estimator for Truval Electric, a career he found both intellectually stimulating and rewarding. In February 2015, he earned his retirement during which he enjoyed spending his free time with his wife, and playing golf with his buddies at Wallkill Country Club.
For his immediate family, Larry will always be remembered for his great love of music. He created the soundtrack of his life and the soundtrack of his children’s childhoods. Whenever Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Van Morrison, Queen, Billy Joel or Harry Chapin are played, memories of Larry will surely follow. We will be looking forward to seeing you “on the bright side of the road” when we can enjoy the music with you again.

Visitation will be held at Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, (One Vanderhoof Court for GPS) Vernon, NJ, on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 3:00-6:30PM, with a service beginning at 6:30.
