Obituary for Robert William Stormes

Robert William Stormes Sr., “Bob”, “Pop”, 86, passed away peaceful on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, in his home. Born to William and Marion Stormes, Bob was a lifelong resident of Sussex, NJ.

Robert established Bob and Bills Service Station, LLC. in 1960 and has proudly been in business as an owner/operator since. He was an honored Charter and Exempt member of Pochuck Valley Fire Department, serving as Chief in 1994 and 2003, as well as a Life Member of the Sussex Fire Department and New Jersey Fire Chief’s Association. Bob was a dedicated family man, remembered for weekend trips to “the lake” with the family for boating and fishing.

He is predeceased by his parents, William and Marion, his son, William Stormes, a sister, Shirley Terrill-Fitzhugh, a brother George Stormes, and his stepmother, Irene Stormes. Bob is survived by and remembered as the beloved husband of Gloria Stormes (Van Duzer), married in 1954, the devoted father of Robert Stormes Jr. and his wife Sandra of Wantage, NJ, Ronnie Storms and his wife Raine of Montague, NJ, Allan Stormes and his wife Sheila of Sussex, NJ and his daughter Sherry Stormes of Sussex, NJ. Pop was the loving grandfather of Melissa Stormes, Alison Stormes and partner Kyle Case, Aimee Roe (Stormes) and husband Jared, Brooke Howell and partner Shaun Pekar, Melanie Vance (Storms) and husband Lavon Jr., William Stormes and partner Rachel, Rachel Sullivan (Stormes) and husband Joseph, Randy Stormes, Tanner Alves, and Danielle Alves. Great grandfather of Tyler Ross, Hannah Stormes, Kaylee Stormes, Christian Case, Brynlee Roe, Hunter Roe, Chloe Armstrong, Mackenzie Vance, and Jeffrey Vance. He was the dear brother of Patricia Shotwell of Orange Park, FL and Trudy Williams and husband David of Augusta, NJ. Cherished by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive their friends at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ on Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 3-7pm with Fireman’s Services at 6:30pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Monday, September 5, 2022, at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Sussex, NJ. Memorial gifts to the family for funeral costs, Pochuck Valley Fire Department, Sussex Fire Department, or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
