Ogdensburg, NJ: On January 25, 2023 Elizabeth (Betty) Washer passed from this earth at Barnhill Care and Rehab Center. She was born at home to Sophie and Andrew Gancarcik in Ogdensburg. Betty married Leighton Washer in 1952. She lived most of her life in Ogdensburg before moving to Knoll Heights in Sparta.
Betty worked in the office of the Power and Light Company in Franklin until the office closed. Betty also worked for the Borough of Ogdensburg Water Department as collector for a decade, before retiring. She was a member of the Hardyston Senior club and a parishioner of Saint Thomas of Aquin Catholic Church in Ogdensburg. She and Lakey built a cabin near the Pepacton Resevoir in the hills of the Catskill Mountains in the state of New York They loved snowmobiling, fishing and enjoyed many years there, spending time with family and friends.
Being one of nine children, they were a close knit family. Betty cared for her siblings as they got older. She drove them to doctor appointments, helped them with shopping and just kept them company. She loved to shop and go out for lunch. Her favorite color was purple. She was fun to be with and will greatly missed.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Leighton, and her son, Guy. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Kosturock, Sophie Geydoshek, Anna Serben, Helen Mikulski, Eileen Landay, and brothers, Joseph and Andrew Gancarcik. She is survived by her sister, Inez Devine, niece Doris Giuriceo and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. She was a godmother to several. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses, aides and staff at Barnhill for the excellent care she was given during her final years. You cared for her as if she were a family member and not a patient.
Viewing for Betty will be on February 3, 2023 from 4-8 pm at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin. A Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Thomas of Aquin Catholic Church in Ogdensburg will be held on February 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
