Obituary for Joan E. Elliott
Joan E. Elliott, born December 24, 1932, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16th, 2023, at the Complete Care Center at Barn Hill in Newton, with family. Born in Detroit MI to the late Urban and Irma (Ertel) Oswald, Joan grew up there and also lived in Ringwood, NJ, Wilmington, DE, Hoffman Estates, IL, and Leesburg, FL, before settling in Vernon, NJ in 2011.
She worked as an administrative assistant at St. Anthony's Community Hospital Warwick NY and Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen NY prior to her retirement.
Joan met her husband, Don, and married in 1953. They were married for sixty years when he passed away on January 1st, 2014. Together, they built a house and a life in Clawson, MI. They were members of the ELKs club, enjoyed camping and traveling with their 5 children.
Predeceased by her husband, Don J. Elliott; daughter Janie Marie Elliott {1954} and grandchildren John Stavridis{2006}, Lauren Elliott{2020}, Clinton Stewart{2021} and Amanda Dayon{2022}. Joan is survived by her sister Janet Breske Warren, MI; daughters, Geralynn & Anthony Trussler The Villages, FL, children James & Michael Stavridis. Marilyn & James Stewart Durham, CT, children Heather, Kristin, Graham. Carolyn & Raymond Brinster Hamburg, NJ, children Loralyn, Jaclyn, Bryan. Laura & John Dayon Vernon, NJ, children Daniel, Emily, Timothy, Abigail, Anna; son Charles Elliott Tavares, FL, children Katie, Samantha, Megan and eleven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements for Joan are private and under the direction of the Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ 07462. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
