Obituary for John D Carrico Sr.

Hamburg; Born on October 21, 1931, John D. Carrico Sr., passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 after 84 years full of love, laughter and happiness. After growing up in Chevy Chase John attended University of Maryland and received his degree in accounting in 1953. Twelve years later, after marrying his beloved Alice (Baker), who predeceased John in 1971, he moved to New Jersey where he would spend the rest of his life. In 1973, a blind date changed his fate when he met his wife, Margriet (nee Vander Heyden), who he would spend the next 42 and a half years loving and cherishing. He has accomplished many things in his 84 years, including owning and operating a successful CPA firm northern New Jersey, sharing skiing experiences with his children and grandchildren in Utah, and loyally supporting his Mets no matter what. But the things that John will be remembered most for are the wise words he instilled into his 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, the gentlemanly grace in which he held himself in all situations, and the legacy he left through his seven children. John had many passions in his long life, including traveling the world, building model trains in his spare time and sharing golf with his sons and grandsons. But above all, his passion for his church, his love for his family and the pride he had for his country and his heritage were indisputable. He will be greatly missed. John is survived by his wife Margriet, and his children, John D. Carrico II and his, wife Laura Lee of Mountain Lakes, Kathy Gaiser and her husband, Steve of Butler, Sander Thys and his wife, Janice, of Denville, Jeannine Neihoff and her husband, Chris of Wantage, Grace Wolfe of West Milford, Saskia Kane and her husband, David of LaPlata, Maryland, and Mary Christine Conners of Newark, Delaware, his 19 grandchildren and one great grandson, and his brother Tom Carrico of Maryland and sisters Anne Blanchard of Norfolk, VA and Mary Lou Tietz and her husband, Gil of Bethesda, Maryland.

Relatives and friends will be received on Friday August 5th from 4-8PM at the Our Lady of Magnificat RC Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ 07405 and are also invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial services on Saturday August 6th at 11AM at Our Lady of Magnificat RC Church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, NJ for condolences and directions see www.fergusonfuneralhomesnj.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation http://fccf.info/
