On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Leo J. Moore passed away at age 90 with his wife Carole and daughters Tracy and Laura by his side. Affectionately known as Jack, he was born and raised in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, New York, the son of Leo and Katherine Moore. He was a proud Navy veteran; having served five years on the USS Rowan DD-782 during the Korean War.
Leo married Carole (Becker) Moore in 1968, and after living in San Diego, CA, the couple made their home in Sussex, NJ. He was a quality assurance engineer for most of his life, but his family and friendships were what meant the most to him. Leo was a well-known and beloved figure within the community. He was a passionate town councilman and a respected former commander of The American Legion Post 213, of which he remained an active member throughout his life. Leo also planned reunions for his navy shipmates and was an avid skier and skin diver in his younger years. He had a gregarious laugh, loved a good joke, and truly enjoyed life.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Kay and Alice. He is survived by his wife Carole; his daughters Tracy (Rob) and Laura (Scott); five grandchildren, Macy, Logan, Blajian, Maxwell, and Jack; and his brother Bill and numerous nieces and nephews.
A “walk-through” visitation for Leo will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 from 2-6PM at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ 07461. The funeral service will take place at 5:30 PM during the visitation. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitors are required to wear masks at all times and the funeral home may accommodate fifty people at any one time.
In place of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The American Legion Post 213 or St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Sussex, New Jersey.

I first met Leo and Carole on a trip to Spain and Portugal. Leo invited me to dinner with them one night and the rest, as they say, is history! We all became great friends. I will always thank Leo for giving me the gift of not only his friendship, but the friendship of his beautiful family as well! Thank you Leo and may you sail on with the angels.

In loving memory,

Michael Blajian

Carole and family, I am so sorry for you loss. I will be praying for the family to help during this time of grievance.
Leo was a great person who was loved by all. Even though I didn’t get to see him much very often, he will be remember for his love of family, his jokes, his outgoing personality, and his dedication to his legion, which he loved so much. I always enjoyed being around him. May his sole Rest In Peace.
